It's a Lemon not an Apple

We purchased an iMac Core i7 27" computer and from day one it has been a lemon. While under warranty we took it in for maintenance because it continually shut off by itself (right in the middle of important work). We thought the problem was fixed, but we had to bring it in a few times before it actually would stay on for extended periods of time.

Then here recently after the warranty had expired (almost like Apple designed it to fail after the warranty), the computer started acting super funny and would not display right. We took it to a computer repair man who could not fix it. So we asked if we could just wash the slate clean and start fresh. They did that and deleted everything on the computer and started again.

The computer worked for about a day and then quit again. We called Apple and they recommended that we turn it over to "PowerOn" to get salvage value for it. Apple also told us we'd get $517.70 for it. We thought that would be ok because we were tired of dealing with a paperweight -- and decided maybe we should just get a MacBook Pro as we have had good experience with them in the past.

Unfortunately when "PowerOn" received our iMac, they said that they could only offer us $50.00 for the computer because it: 1) had a defective systemboard; 2) had a defective hard drive; & 3) had a severe display imperfection.

So now I'm left with nothing. I wrote Apple on another complaint website and have heard nothing. We used to be loyal apple consumers and have 3 other apple computers in our house plus an ipad. We wanted the iMac to be our cental computer -- but we were sold a piece of poo. And now Apple will do nothing about it.

I'm in the military and currently deployed overseas and I don't have the luxury of buying pricey items. It would be nice if we had an iMac like the one we had (except working) so that my family could skype with me from 1000s of miles away. But instead we are left with grief over a bad computer...and we can only skype via my wife's ipad.

I really want to buy a new apple (and that is what we were going to do with the $517.70 gift certificate) but with a $50.00 -- I don't think it is worth the time. Before we end up buying a PC and forever abandon our loyalty to apple -- is there anything Apple might be willing to do to bring us back to the fold. i.e. Can you turn the lemon you sold us into lemonade?
